I recently celebrated my birthday several weeks ago, the morning of my special day I received some divine inspiration for my morning cup of tea. I went to my tea inventory and was guided to blend two of my favorite teas together. The two teas I blended were a Bees Knees Puerh and a Hazelnut Black tea, the results were scrumptious! The Bees Knees tea is a honey flavored Puerh and the flavor of honey really enhances the hazelnut black tea. I don't know what inspired me to combine these two teas together but I definitely will enjoy this blend for many more tea times to come. I’ve always adored honey and it has a long and lustrous history that dates back to biblical times. Bees create honey by collecting the nectar from various flowers to create a lovely golden substance that is both sweet and has a long shelf life - it can also be used to preserve food, as well. So, it’s only fitting that honey is an ideal ingredient and flavor for tea leaves. The morning I blended the teas together I tried to use an even amount of each tea to try and get a good balance of flavor. The result was a cup of tea that smelled a bit like Nutella only with a more intense note of sweetness from the honey and earthy hazelnut aromas.
Anyone with a sweet tooth will appreciate this tea blend, it’s literally a sweet treat. Have you ever noticed the aroma of honey? It does just taste great, it smells delightful all on it’s own. For this tea blend, it literally smells like hazelnuts roasted with a honey glaze. The smell is very potent, even dry, which is why when it’s brewed, it brews up a strong cup of tea.
Strong teas are a gift that keeps on giving because I can get multiple brews out of them. The honey hazelnut blend was the perfect tea time birthday present, I was able to enjoy several cups of tea using (1) blended serving. My birthday tea wish was granted with this blend! The tea leaves get so dark, the color is a beautiful shade of dark brown that starts out in a reddish auburn with hints of gold. Heat brings out the bold aroma and flavor of honey and hazelnut. I always add cream to dark teas, it’s like adding a bit of savory to my sweet - it balances the flavors out.
The next time you are craving a cup of tea that is both strong and sweet, try blending The Bees Knees Puerh and Hazelnut Black teas together. Close your eyes and make a birthday wish, it can be an unbirthday wish all your own dipped in honey.
