Who doesn’t love a warm mocha latte on a frosty morning?? I don’t get out to the cafes much these days but I have some lovely memories of holding a warm latte in my hands. I enjoy smelling the sweet chocolate simmering under the frothy mound that covers my latte. Lattes don’t just bring warmth to the body, they warm the soul and bring a smile to one’s face. I was recently pleasantly surprised by a tea that I discovered while roaming the web in search of a tea blend to perk up my inquisitive appetite. I was browsing on the website for Sisters Tea and discovered a tea called “Mocha Latte Tea”. The name alone had me intrigued, how on earth would a tea taste like a mocha latte?? This, I HAD to try...low and behold, to my surprise, it was delicious! The tea blend was “spot on”, the only thing missing was the frothy cream on top. Mocha lattes have a sweet and bold blend - it’s basically a loaded hot chocolate with a shot of espresso and a TON of cream. Any tea that even comes close to recreating this magical potion deserves praise and applaud for rising to the challenge of this complex combination.
So, without further delay...on to WHY this tea deserves a steep or two…
Brewing this tea is like walking into a warm café, the smell of chocolate flavored lattes fills the air. The best part, you don’t have to stand in a long line to get this sweet treat. The tea has a deep and rich aroma to it, you can see and smell the coffee beans but also the chocolate - it’s so charged with intensity you can just SMELL the flavor. There is also a hint of vanilla and some earthy spice in this blend. The smell of coffee has always brought me comfort and warmth, in every season.
Once brewed, the tea leaves are a beautiful dark shade of auburn, much like a dark chocolate candy bar melting in your cup. Just like picking up your latte order at the café, you’ll want to take a sip right away - no point in waiting. The first flavor on the palate is chocolate, an intense chocolate with a slight salty, vanilla essence. I always drink this tea with cream, it just wouldn’t be complete without cream and a bit of sugar makes it absolutely divine. The flavors of coffee, chocolate and cream all blend together to make a perfect tea latte. Who needs a café when you can brew up your own latte in your own home!
The next time you are craving a mocha latte, don’t run to your local café, walk over to your tea collection and brew your own latte. You can even steam your own milk and have it exactly the way you want - dark, creamy and delightful.
There is something magical in every tea time, much like tea leaves upon brewing, the warmth steeps into your spirit and opens you up!
