Peach Cobbler Tea
Growing up, peach cobbler was one of my favorite desserts. Sweet peaches in syrup baked with a layer of cinnamon and sugar biscuit topping, add a HUGE scoop of vanilla ice cream and I’m in peach cobbler heaven. Although I don’t enjoy the dessert anymore, peaches are not Keto-friendly, I stumbled upon a tea blend that tastes exactly like this dessert. My inner tea spirit knew precisely what I needed the morning she whispered to me to blend two teas that taste great on their own but blended…are even better. I reached for a black tea by The Art of Tea called Summer Peach and then I reached for another black tea by Adagio Teas called Fiery Cinnamon Spice. Both of these teas are strong teas on their own, so when blended together they brew up a powerful cup of tea. In this instance, the combination produces the exact scents and flavors found in a peach cobbler dessert - vanilla ice cream and all. Peach cobbler has an interesting history, it was originally invented in the 1800s by settlers who wanted a good alternative to peach pie. Being on the road, they couldn’t bake a pie, no oven. So, they created the next best thing using canned peaches, some biscuit mixture (flour and baking powder-dry, transportable ingredients) and sugar with spices…they heated it over a crackling fire pit in a Dutch oven and the peach cobbler was born!
Anyone who loves peach cobbler knows, the very first treat from this amazing dessert is the scent of it. The aroma of warm peaches with cinnamon and sugar dance in the air when you put this dessert in the oven. Blending these teas has the aroma of putting a freshly put together cobbler in the oven.
Brewing this tea combo is heaven in a cup, the heat increases the smell of peaches, cinnamon and vanilla that erupt from this blend. The tea turns dark very fast as it brews a strong cup of tea, the brown swirls remind me of cinnamon and sugar in the peach cobbler dessert. I usually give the tea about 5 minutes to brew, inhaling each breadth of peaches and cinnamon. You don’t need sugar but I do recommend cream, it’s equivalent to adding a scoop of ice cream to your peach cobbler dessert. The flavors of summer peaches, cinnamon and vanilla greet your palate like taking your first bite of peach cobbler - pure sweetness.
As we head into the Summer months, cobblers and other desserts will be on my radar to experiment with, so look for more tea combinations of this nature. In the meantime, if you are craving a peach cobbler dessert and don’t feel like going through the trouble of putting together an actual peach cobbler, blending these teas is a good alternative to the actual dish.
